And now for the nitty gritty! We’ll be working short handed as we start the year but I’m determined to a) not let that stress me out and b) not burn myself out again. ⁣⁣

I’ll be at the computer less (so please be patient with my response time for DMs). I’ll be spending more time in the studio making your goodies + shipping orders. And, I’ll be continuing with my granny o’clock bedtime, ha! 👵🏻⁣⁣

As an earthy Taurus, I can find the beauty in all seasons (though hands down, autumn 🍂 will forever hold my heart). ⁣⁣

Even on cold, slushy days like today - when the amount of mud in the sheep area 🐑 would make people question whether we have pigs at the sanctuary 😅 - there’s something about being outside, surrounded by nature, that fills my soul. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
An experience that I’m taking as a win after feeling like a crispy potato chip (see previous posts) not too long ago 🥔 . ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
While I’m already missing our gardens (they are all tucked in for a long winter's nap), I stay rooted to the earth through her botanical gifts by drinking herbal tea 🍵, using herbal personal care products (switching to natural toothpaste 🦷 more than a decade ago was a game-changer for my dental health), and of course, whipping up (and slathering on) natural skincare and cosmetics 🌿🧙‍♀️😉. ⁣⁣

One of the herbs that I’m obsessing over at the moment is goldenseal 🌱 . I’ve used it for years, and it seems like I discover a new application for it all the time. What I’ve always loved it for, though, is its soothing properties in our natural mascara. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Goldenseal is also known as eye balm 👁 (among at least a dozen other names like adorable “ground raspberry”), but what it’s fantastic at is reducing eye inflammation and irritation 🙌! Something that is common from traditional mascara formulas (especially for seasonal allergy sufferers like me).⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So here’s to the power of plants and connecting to nature’s beauty - no matter what season it is! 🌿🪴🌱 ⁣

🤩 𝑯𝒐𝒍𝒚 𝒔𝒎𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒔! Together we raised $1007 for @happys_senior_dogs (senior dog rescue) with the annual charity soap drive! ⁣⁣⁣

Each November, all the proceeds from our soap bars go to a specific charity that’s doing amazing things in our community. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
This year we picked Happy’s Place - a rescue not far from our Grounded Sage studio that helps senior dogs in need. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Those who know me know just how dearly senior animals are to my heart. And with the passing of several of our rescued senior dogs over the last few years (including Lucy, who passed in the spring) and the grief that is still heavy on our hearts, I couldn’t help but focus our efforts on a non-profit that helps dear souls in their golden years that are at high risk of euthanasia or abandonment. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Just last night, Happy’s Place helped Barney, a dog that was rescued from previous abuse and neglect, peacefully pass over the rainbow bridge with dignity and love. They gave Barney a restful place to safely live out his life free of fear and pain. ⁣⁣⁣

A couple of nights ago, I told my mom and sister that I’m burnt out—so burnt out that I’m crispy. And salty. I’m basically a potato chip 🤷🏻‍♀️🥔. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Which, let’s be honest, is probably how a lot of folks are feeling right now. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
On the business side of things, we’re in the busiest season of the year, the holiday rush, with only a few weeks before we close for winter holidays. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m so incredibly thankful for each and every one of you. Each purchase, each “like,” each comment, each share - none of it goes unnoticed - even when I’m feeling overwhelmed and potato-chip-esque. ⁣
⁣
And I’m not about to let our community of radiant rebels down, so I’m finding ways to preserve and enjoy the season we’re in. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
A few of those ways are...⁣⁣
⁣⁣
- working my way through morning chores with the animals at a slower pace (which includes stopping for lots of chicken chats and sheep snuggles), despite my brain attempting to tell me to 𝑟𝑢𝑠ℎ 𝑟𝑢𝑠ℎ 𝑟𝑢𝑠ℎ. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
- having the bedtime that a granny would be proud of. 👵🏻⁣⁣
⁣⁣
- tackling the “must-dos” and trusting that’s enough. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
- practicing gratitude for the support system I have (which includes Tim, my spouse, who’s packing up your Grounded Sage orders as I type this). ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
- giggling over ridiculous memes, gifs, and chicken coops shaped like space ships (it’s a thing!) 🐔👽⁣⁣
⁣⁣
- lots of lemon balm in capsule form (amazing for mental stress, restlessness, and irritability). ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
When I take a moment to breathe, I already start to feel more centred, more relaxed, and more equipped to get through the next few weeks. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
In fact, I’m looking forward to going from a crispy potato chip to a couch potato with a stack of books, hot chocolate, and lots of extra doggie snuggles as winter continues to creep up on us. ⁣⁣
