Eczema can be tricky to deal with, but it doesn’t have to be impossible. One of the first steps to combating eczema is to narrow down the type you’re dealing with. Below are the 3 most common types of eczema we see (plus recommendations for internal balancing and topical skincare).
3 Types of Eczema
Type 1: Dry
Symptoms:
- Dry
- Flaky
- Chapped
- No Itching
- No Burning
- Can crack if not taking care of right away
Areas it usually affects:
- Face
- Behind the ears
- Small areas of the body
- Large areas exposed to the elements like midriff, calves, lower arms
- Hands
Internal recommendations:
- Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids
External recommendations:
- Lip Balm + … the “+” it because it’s for more than just lips, it can use on any part of the body and is especially great for use on dry, cracked skin from this first time of eczema
- Hydrations Mist (before serum and/or moisturizer)
- Hydra Healing Gel (before serum and/or moisturizer)
- Patchouli Facial Moisturizer (the patchouli oil is super soothing to sore skin)
Type 2: Heat
Symptoms:
- Red
- Inflamed
- Burning
- Can look like type one but the above 3 symptoms make the difference between type 1 & 2
Areas it usually affects:
- Face
- Hands
Internal recommendations:
- Coconut Oil (1-2 tablespoons a day)
External recommendations:
- Hydration Mist
- Hydra Healing Gel
- Patchouli Facial Moisturizer
- Daphne’s Mix (yes, this is our anti-itch dog spray, but it works just as well on people!)
Type 3: Wet
Symptoms:
- Wet – looks like light perspiration on the skin
- Water blisters
- VERY itchy
- High risk of fungal infection
Areas it usually affects:
- Usually anywhere but the face, but the face isn’t necessarily off-limits
Internal recommendations:
- Flaxseed oil (1-2 tablespoons a day)
External recommendations:
- Dusting area with turmeric powder (when water-filled bumps are present)
- Dead Sea Mud Mask
- Daphne’s Mix (yes, this is our anti-itch dog spray, but it works just as well on people!)
- If and when dampness isn’t an issue anymore, apply Patchouli Facial Moisturizer
A final note
No matter which type of eczema you’re suffering with, be sure you’re not using any products with harsh or drying ingredients (the majority of commercial/non-natural products have these) and speak to your doctor if symptoms persist.
