Question

Hi there!

I have been dealing with eczema and dermatitis for a long time. On top of that, I also have a compulsive skin picking disorder (Dermatillomania). I really want to heal my skin, and I believe your products are the first step. I was also thinking that what I eat might also affect my skin.

Would you happen to know what foods are healthy or not healthy for your skin? I don’t have any allergies, but I am curious as to what foods would help heal and what foods I should avoid.

Also, if you can recommend any more of your products to help with my situation, I am happy to try them.

Thank you so very much for your help!

Answer

Hi There!
Thank you for your email!  Healthy eating is definitely needed to help your skin heal.  We have this infographic that gives you a list of some the foods that will help heal your skin.

You’ll want to avoid highly inflammatory foods including, but not limited to…

    • Trans fats
    • Sugar
    • Refined grains (like those found in white bread)
    • Milk (rather dairy in general)
    • Cooking oils high in Omega-6
    • Red & processed meats
    • Soy (watch out for this one, because soy is a major ingredient in so many products on the shelves)
    • Tropical fruits (Bananas, oranges, pineapples etc.)

On top of that, you may want to check and see if you have any food sensitivity. You can speak to your doctor/naturopath about being tested, or try the elimination approach, where you slowly add the more common sensitivities back into your diet.

Here’s a list of some of the more common sensitivities that have been linked to Eczema:

  • additives (colours and flavours) including but not limited to…
    • MSG
    • ribonucleotide – #635 – E635 (names or numbers can be used on the label)
    • disodium guanylate – #627 – E627
    • disodium inosinate – #631 – E631
    • monosodium glutamate or #621
  • sulphite preservatives
  • salicylates (present in most fruits and some vegetables)
  • eggs
  • wheat and gluten
If you’re wanting to add some boosters to your routine, we also have the Hydra Healing Skin Rescue Gel, Hydration Mist, Dead Sea Mud Mask.  You can check them all out here.
I hope that helps!
