Q&A: Why Can’t I Seem To Get The Hydra Healing Gel To Absorb?

skin hydration / skin absorption / green beauty / skincareQuestion

Hi there-

I’ve been using your products for about three months now. I have very dehydrated skin, so I bought the Hydra Healing Skin Rescue Gel about a month ago, hoping it would help. Even on humid days and with moisturizer, my face feels tight and it’s painful to move, stretch, or make any kind of facial expression. However, I’ve noticed that it doesn’t really absorb into my skin. It just sits on top, looking like a plastic-y sheen on my face. I’ve tried applying less, applying more, and gently massaging it into my skin, but it still looks like I have a coating of dried glue on my face. In addition, my skin still feels tight (it’s a little better than before, but it still hurts to move my face). What do I do?

Also, how long does the detox stage take? When I started with the detox kit, I broke out, which was expected, but since then my acne has only gotten worse. I keep telling myself that my skin has to get worse before it gets better, but I’m honestly starting to lose hope since seeing no improvement from when I started. My skin also gets super oily a few hours after I wash it. Like, spectacularly oily. Like, if I rub my hand against my face and then look at it, it looks like my hand is shining. I currently wash my face only twice a day, but I’m greatly tempted to wash it more often because of the oil.

Products I’m using:

Note: I have a nut allergy, but after reading through the ingredients a million times before I bought these products, I’m pretty sure none of them have nuts? Unless I somehow missed it.

Another note: I’m Asian (Chinese). According to some of the internet, this makes a difference in what products I should be using. I’ve no idea. Does it?

Thank you so much!

Answer

Hi There!

Thanks for your question!

Here are my thoughts on the info you sent me:

  • Start mixing the Hydra Healing Gel with your moisturizer 75/25 (3 quarters moisturizer with 1 quarter Hydra Healing Gel. This measurement doesn’t have to be exact, just eyeball it. This will help it absorb better and avoid it sitting on the top of your skin – just mix the two in the palm of your hand before applying.
  • The detox stage is different for everyone. What you described sounds similar to this customer (have a read through my answer as I think the suggestions in it will greatly help you – particularly the internal info).
  • To help balance how oily your face is, using the Balance Serum at night and a layer of the Oil Absorbing Setting Powder (even if you’re not wearing any other makeup) during the day.
  • Re: Nut allergy: There is a product you listed you’re using that has a nut ingredient in it.
    – The Charcoal Soap has coconut oil in it.
  • Re: Ethnicity + Skin Care: The only time I’ve noticed this makes a difference is how the skin scars and how likely the skin is to scar. So overall, it doesn’t make a difference. The only time a routine would be tweaked would be to address scaring.

I hope that helps!
