burdock root / hormonal balancing / internal skincare / green beauty / holistic skincare

Question

Hey there,

So, I’ve been having a very frustrating time with my hormonal acne. I’ve cut dairy out of my diet and have significantly reduced refined sugar (I use honey now). But, alas, it actually seems to have gotten worse if that’s possible. Your Acne & Oil Balancing Mask works REALLY well to tackle the acne once its there, but it’s frustrating to see it pop up so often.
Anyway, I googled around and noticed people recommend burdock root supplements, as well as ‘DIM’ or ‘Vitex’. I noticed you use burdock root in a lot of your products, do you have any experience in taking it in supplement form?
Thanks!

Answer

Hi There-
I don’t take burdock root in supplement form, but I do highly recommend milk thistle. Especially if you’re going to start taking DIM (EstroBalance is one brand that’s available in Canada. EstroBlock is available in the USA).
I’ve written several articles (which you may or may not have read yet), that may give you more info about supplements to take. Since it sounds like you have a clean skincare routine, and have started to tweak your diet, supplements are likely the way to go. Note though that it can take a long time to balance hormonal acne but the best bet is with a multi-faceted approach (ie. internal + external).  As long as your skincare routine is working well, I would continue to do what you can to keep a clean diet and add in supplements. For myself, I take milk thistle, zinc, and a couple of times a week, I take EstroBalance (I never ended having to take it a whole lot), and now know my acne triggers so avoid them (dairy is a big one for me!). You should see some changes within 3 months of taking supplements and significant changes after 6 months (although everyone is different)
Here are the articles that might help…
I hope that helps! Please let me know if there’s anything I can clarify or help with further 🙂
